Colca canyon, hot springs and the coldest hostel rooms so far!
KERRY - We had a v early start of 5am today as we had a lot to fit in! The first stop was at 4900 meters high at a place called Pata Pampa to take in the views of the surrounding volcanoes - Misti, Pichu Pichu and Chachani. We then began the drive through Colca Canyon which had some spectacular scenery. Our digital camera decided to stop working for this trip due to the sand dune evening, so we had to revert to the old fashioned film type. We copied some pics from other peoples cameras though. Colca Canyon is the home of condors and we were lucky enough to see a couple, especially as it was the wrong time of day to see them!
After a little trek it was time to move on to Chivay a little town where we were staying the night. Visited the thermal baths there and then went back to the hotel before dinner. Some of the group went for some beers after dinner in a small "Irish" pub (allegedly the smallest one in the world, but they had a pool table). On arrival back at the hotel we were greeted with hot water bottles - good job as it was very cold!!
