Weekend Jaunt to Brussels

Brussels, or Bruxelles in French, is a phenomenal city. It is quite hectic with a great many things to do, gorgeous women, two quite distinct languages (Flemish, which is Dutch, and French), a bustling nightlife and a great Grand Place city center. One would not run out of things to do over the weekend and it feels like the city is modern and very old, all at the same time.

The Grand Place is amazing in its architectural beauty. Surrounded on all sides by some very old buildings, including the Musee de Bruxelles, buildings with gold plastered all over them, tall towers and many statues. Walk in any direction and you can find various cuisine and bars and the great Belgian beer! I recommend the Trappiste beer Chimay personally. A great deal of Greek cuisine is around and these people apparently love their "kababs" and gyros. Good stuff.

I actually spent part of the evening with an early 30-somethings couple from the same city as me in Texas, at an Irish pub no less. But the great part was spending a couple of hours with an inebriated group of Swedish diplomats visiting the  EU capital. They were quite entertaining, just don't mention you are American. I apparently can fool people as a German for brief periods. Their German was terrible though so English was used for communication. Imagine that, my forte!

I highly recommend visiting Brussels if anyone has a chance to go, it is definitely worth the train ride. Very easy to get around and the people are very friendly also.
