The rest of Ohio

Fort Wright Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

My family is moving to Hawai'i. My sister and I are driving my car across country to ship it from California. We're taking route 50 west from Ocean City, MD to Oakland, CA. We'll probably have several detours on the way. I can't wait to see parts of the country that I'd never get to see. Wish us luck.

Cinncinati Skyline at 80 mph

After we left Chillicothe we stayed on 50 towards Cinncinati.  The ride was uneventful and pretty slow.  I'm getting tired of 50 because every several miles you have to stop in a one-light town or slow down to 25 mph so that you don't hit someone's cow or goat or child.  We did stop furthur down the road at the Seip Mound.

This area was much smaller than the Mound City, but equally impressive.  The Seip Mound is a smaller part of the Hopewell Culture area.  The mound here was much larger and you were allowed to climb it.  The view from the top was of the sourrounding farmland.  You couldn't see much of the other mounds becase the were parts of farms or grown over with weeds, but it was still pretty impressive.

We arrived in Cinncinati around 5:30pm and were getting loopy from being hungry.  50 went right through the city, we could see the crowd leaving the Reds game.  I saw an Irish pub on the westside of the city and pulled into a parking garage before blood sugar took over again.  After we ate we were too tired to continue on the road.

We found a really shady Days Inn over the boarder of Kentucky and checked in.  It was too late to use the pool so we went to the supermarket and got Liz's pictures developed of Mound City.
