Turkeys and Goats in the Shade, Praire Dog in the Sun

Liz wansn't feeling well this morning so I let her sleep a little longer.  We decided to devote this day to driving again.  From Kansas City to Denver is 600 something odd miles.  I gave the car a mini check-up while Liz got ready and then we took off.  Kansas is really flat, but I think its the most beautiful state that we've been through so far; plains as far as you can see and big sky.  The cows must be really happy out there.  Interstate 70 is so much faster, I'm glad we abandoned 50.

We stopped in Hays for late lunch at a place called Carlos O'Kelly's Mexican Cafe.  I'm not sure if its a chain, but it was really good and affordable.

We'd been driving for about 5 or 6 hours (I'm actually kind of confused about this becuase we drove through 2 time zones today) and needed a break so we decided to stop at Praire Dog Town.  There were signs advertising goats, foxes, praire dogs, rattlesnakes and other farm animals.  We got there and it looked sort of strange, but we went for it.  For $6 you get to go into the farmyard that is part of a praire dog colony and tons of cirtters to photo and pet if you really want to.  The little gift shop was fun to look through too.  There were huge cement praire dog statues, a cow with 6 legs, a huge rabbit, and boars from 'Russia'.
