Departed JHB, South Africa to Cape Town, South Africa to board the "World Renaissance" ship as a young girl full of hopes and dreams. I had travelled before in South Africa, but never viewed it as significant travel because I always wanted to go overseas, and travelling in ones own country did not count. Well now I feel totally different of course. Well on board I was bowled over at what big ships offer in the way of accomodation, food, entertainment etc. It was absolutely awesome. And also having travelled so much now I wish I had kept proper journals of all my travels as a young person. Could've written books by now. The memories are there but not as clear. Well on the ship we had activities all the time in the form of entertainment like meeting the Captain, practicing safety drills, fancy dresses, horse racing, musicals, and the list goes on. What amazing fun. Also by now having met amazing people cause you are restricted to the ship and can't pretty much go elsewhere. Our first stop after being on the waters for quite a while was St Helena, a little Island of the west coast of Africa. Where Napoleon was laid to rest. I remember standing over his grave site and feeling the earth move from side to side as if still on the ship and on water. Then there were these steps that went t heaven I think. Never did get a chance to go to the top as our time on the Island was limited. And trust me those steps were not for the faint hearted. All good and back on the ship to sail further. Our next stop was Sierra Leonne which is on the west coast of Africa in the bulge of the tummy. Man all i can say is that there are so many people that have no jobs, no homes, and I think pretty much have lost their dignity because of that. Shame man, it's a pity. Cause the whole of Africa is so beautifull but there are so many thousands of people that are impoverished. But the tourist attractions along the beach fronts and the hotels there are really lush. The beaches are beautifull. Next destination Gran Canary Islands. Wow, absolutely awesome. And a real tourist attraction. Then on land to Spain. Unfortunately we missed the bull fights, but heard all the commotion while the locals where gearing up to go there. I will update this journal once I've been through my albums and literature again. I'm in between homes and travel and my stuff is in storage @ the moment as it has been 3 times b4 this. LOL
