After 13 hours on the bus getting here, Jen and I never want to see a Greyhound again! Slept for most of it but still fairly horrendous! Since we'd slept nearly all day and sat on our arses we headed out for a few drinks shortly after arriving in MTL...it's pitchers of beer all the way here (my profile pic is from here!)...we embraced it and got a little boozy. We also had the pleasure (?) of tasting our first poutine (see photo).
MTL really is a lovely city, very french, some of you may think that would have been obvious but we were thinking it would be Canadian and a little french but no not the case. The Old Port is especially lovely and quaint, we spent a fair few hours there. It is very hot here at the moment, roasting in fact! We would have loved to sit in an alfresco bar on the waterfront and sip sangria but we settled for a bottle of apple juice from a local shop and sat in a park.
We are being well looked after here, staying with Mike (colleague from Courchevel)...While Mike was at work his parents kindly took us out for a sightseeing tour, which was really good, Mike's dad was full of info about the city. We went to some ethnic districts...first stop was an old bagel shop...was neat watching them make and bake the bagels...tastes totally different to NYC one, sweeter and not as dense. Montreal is renowned for it's cusine and we certainly had a good sample that day, I think our tummies nearly popped!
Been so nice being here and had many fun nights out but on and forward we must go...
