Its leaning, but not that much
On our way down to Rome
for Pope John Paul's funeral we decided that we would stop off in Pisa
and see the leaning tower... it was on the way afterall and we knew that we wouldnt have a better opportunity to stop by and see it. As we drove into Pisa, the tower could be seen off in the distance, it was definatly leaning. Parking was a pain in the ass but that tends to be the case near any touristy area and in Europe its often a problem. Being that I had never been there nor had I seen pictures of the tower apart from text books, i had no clue what to expect. The grounds that the tower lays on are amazing. A completely walled in area with a cathedral and done thingy.
The entire area, its looks straiter when you turn your camera slightly
(Being that is has been a couple of years I cant remember what the hell it was all called.) When I got up close to the tower I had a stunning realization... I thought it would be leaning further. Dont get me wrong, it was anything but strait up and down. I dont know what it was, maybe I thought it would be leaning further. And it definatly wasnt as tall as I thought it would be. Guess I had built it up in my imagination as we drove to see the thing. Dont get me wrong, it was absolutly amazing, and I couldnt beleive I was there in person seeing it. I am one of maybe three people in my family fortunate enough to be in the position to travel and see something like this. Aside from the sites, there were hundreds of people there, a lot of young adults lounging around and enjoying each others company, a few school groups touring and of course the old folks and their touring companies. I think what really dissapointed me the most were the local 'gypsie' folk selling all kinds of crap along the wall. That really took away from the experience and had to refrain from punching a few of them who wouldnt leve me or my friends alone, but what can you expect from a tourist trap like the Tower. Aside from the gypos it was awesome and I would def recomend checking it out if you are in the area, just remember, it isnt leaning THAT FAR
