Bata Shoe Museum

Toronto Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I decided to trap myself in a car for 5 weeks with one friend who I'd be around 24/7. Don't worry. She lives. [under construction!]
This museum is a unique one that models the history of shoes and has a vast collection from all cultures. Whether you're a shoe lover or not, this is a worthy visit to see how the shoe has evolved to what it is today, as well as the variety of shoes across cultures. The museum also has a collection of shoes worn by various celebrities such as Elton John, Elvis Presley, and one of Terry Fox's running shoes, among others.

Another way to go up is to have a meal in the restaurant. Dinner is quite expensive, especially if you're on a budget, but lunch is much more reasonable. Eating in the restaurant gives you a free ride up, and a great view while you eat! Otherwise, if you're really on a budget, like I was the last time I was there, the views are still great from the bottom, and it really shows how tall the CN tower really is!
This is a museum you should set a lot of time for, at least 3 hours. It's a big museum with a large collection of artifacts and there is a lot to see. There are great exhibits, however, I recommend going at a time when you know there won't be any school groups elbowing their way past you and screaming down the halls! At the moment, there's a great exhibit on Ancient Peru, as well as Egypt and Greece, and much more.

They just opened the new Crystal by Daniel Libeskind so it looks pretty cool with the historic facade
