I love Las Vegas
July 2, 2005
As much as I hate America West, that's how much I love Las Vegas. I had never been there before, and I was a little apprehensive about the trip because I'm not a big gambler or a big drinker (one fruity girl drink and I already feel sick), so I wasn't sure what there was for me to do.
What I hadn't counted on was the absolute joy of just looking at everything. Vegas is beautiful in an entirely artificial way, and if you're impressed by spectacle than you can't go wrong in Vegas. The best part about the first trip is that you're completely stunned, and you can't quite see everything so you're left with the impression that it goes on forever. By about the third trip, you'll get most of the highlights, but nothing beats that very first visit to the strip.
The hotels themselves are just incredible. Giant pyramid? Eiffel tower? Gondola rides? Check, check, check. You can see all that and more just from your window. And that's just the outside.

Treasure Island has pirates. I think that's all I really need to say about it.
As if the pirate theme wasn't enough, TI also has its own Cirque du Soleil show (Mystere), a popular nightclub or two, some nice restaurants, and a free show outside every night. In a spectacle reminiscent of the ancient Roman naval battles, a lifesized pirate ship full of singing buccaneers sails nightly across the artificial lake outside the hotel and accosts a group of innocent sirens. There's always a crowd, but TI guests have VIP priviledges and are more likely to get access to the show.
The hotel itself is a shade less extravagant than some of the other, newer casinos, but it's no small potatoes either. TI is a fun hotel with a nice casino and plenty of nightlife, deserving of its solid location on the strip.
And, oh yeah, there's pirates.
