The Duomo's exterior.
I ate breakfast at the delicious buffet they had onboard the ship before setting out to Pisa
. We boarded the buses to the town and saw many delightful sights on the way. When we arrived, we had to walk for 20 minutes from the parking lot to the "Field of Miracles". This name corresponds to the area in which the famous Leaning Tower, the Baptistry, and the Duomo all reside in. This was my second time here, but I wanted to return since I wanted to visit the inside of the Duomo, and see all the sites again =D. On our way walking, we saw lots of street carts, selling local souvenirs, but most had World Cup '06 soccer jerseys. They were all lined up outside the "Field of Miracles" wall. When we entered through the wall, we immediately resorted to taking pictures of us "holding" the Leaning Tower of Pisa (the traditional pose).
Detail of the Baptistry.
After the picture-taking we went inside the Duomo, enjoying the ornate sculptures, the beautiful ceiling, the gigantic space, and the peacefulness of it all. The architecture inside was inspired by Moorish influence and the overall movement of the Renaissance. The Leaning Tower also shares the same type of exterior architecture as the Duomo, with the characteristic arches. Afterwards, we took some more pictures of the Baptistry, the Leaning Tower, and the "Field of Miracles". This area is truly magnificent, with three glorious structures, one after the other. We couldn't leave without buying some mementos, so we stopped at some of the carts, buying soccer jerseys, Leaning Tower souvenirs, keychains, everything!! I liked the scene: many carts with hundreds of tourists just pouring in. It was pretty amusing to watch, but we had to leave, so we boarded the buses back to Livorno. When we arrived, we boarded the ship and enjoyed all it had to offer.
