Rome the night before, and transferred to our hotel in the city. It was our luck that the World Cup 2006 was taking place during those days. Today we went out to sightsee, and decided to go early to the Colosseum and the Forum area. Once we got there, we took some pictures and roamed around. We saw the Arch of Constantine and Titus's Arch. Both were fantastic and detailed. Afterwards we visited the Pantheon, entering the huge space with the striking oculus pouring in sunlight. The funny thing about it was that at the time we visited, there was this bird trapped inside the building, and it kept on going in circles near the top, before exiting through the oculus. I took a video of it, and it was pretty cool.Later on we visited this quaint, not-that-known church near the Pantheon, called Santa Maria sopra Minerva. It had beautiful frescoes of angels with different instruments. Later on, in the evening, we went to the Spanish steps, and saw that it was completely crowded with young people waiting for the match of Italy vs. Australia at the World Cup. We ate at a local pizzeria, which served heavenly pizza!!! After enjoying the amazing food, we walked through the streets of Rome. Boy, when Italy won, everyone went crazy!! You could hear car horns everywhere, and people chanting we won!! The Italian flag was everywhere, from wigs to caps to shirts. It was an awesome experience, and I will never forget it. After celebrating with the Italians at the main city plaza, we went back to our hotel.
