Rome and Florence

The trip to Rome was ok. My couchette which has 2 bunkbeds of 6 people was full and one of them was the loudest snorer ever. It was terrible. I listened to music for most of the trip and tried to block it out. When we all sat up in the morning, he kept talking to me but he was from India and I couldnt understand a word that he was saying. This didnt seem to deter him from keeping on talking to me though...great. Im not a small talker at the best of times.
I was so excited to see my parents. The route to them was a little tricky though. I dont really know Rome so I took the wrong metro exit and hiked up the Spanish steps with my backpack and bag. I was so happy to find the hotel.
The first day was pretty relaxed. The second day, mom and dad decided to be adventurous and accompany me on the train to Florence for the day. It was a really nice visit. The streets are so beautiful in Florence. We found a great little Italian place for lunch and caught the evening train back around 5:30 pm. I was happy because everything was going fairly smoothly for my parents. However, our trains brakes were broken and they had to stop a number of times to fix them so the high speed train was about 2 hours late arriving back in Rome. It was very confusing because everything was in Italian....mom and dad were pretty good about it. We just sat back and enjoyed the Italian sunset from the train...the VERY delayed train. Unfortunately, it was so late by the time that we got back that the restaurants were closed so we had some little sandwiches which were actually quite good, some wine, and headed off for a well deserved sleep. :)
It is really great to see my parents. On Wednesday, Chris and Nicola will join us. Should be great. :)
