Australia has been great so far. I'm probably a little overexcited about it since I have just come from a month and a half of developing 3rd world nations. Hello clean air...I love you!
I left the airport and started heading downtown to find a hostel. I met up with a few Canadians on the train who were headed to Big hostel. It wasn't where I was planning on going but looked good and I checked in there. It's great! Very close to downtown and everything I want to see. I met another Canadian (from Calgary...very close to my hometown) and an Irish.
I spent most of the first day on my own cruising up and down George street, admiring the Sydney bridge and opera house and enjoying the nice weather...not too hot, not too cold. The next day, the Canadian and the Irish guy and a new french roomie and I all headed off to catch a ferry to Darling harbor where we saw great white sharks, spiders, snakes, kangaroos, and koala bears at the aquarium and Wildlife park.
Today, I slept in. Tom, my Canadian roommate, bought a fake spider and snake at the Wildlife park so it is the running joke to leave it under someone's pillow or dangling from the bunkbed. It keeps changing places and everyone was laughing so much, noone really got to sleep until late. Tomorrow, I am going to climb the sydney bridge....Monica says it's awesome. And on monday, I head off to surf camp for 5 days up the coast to Byron Bay.
I am probably only going to write this travel blog once a week since internet is quite a bit more expensive and I will be staying in one place for awhile after I get to Gold Coast.
