Spent the weekend in Fraser island....
Monica and I started off pretty early with a bus ride up to Brisbane where we joined up with another bus (a huge 4 wheel drive) to head up further on the coast to Rainbow beach. Around the area of rainbow beach, we caught a very short 10 minute ferry ride across. Fraser island is crazy....unlike anything I have ever seen. Imagine miles and miles of pristine white sand beach. The highway on the island is actually just sand. If you don't have a 4 wheel drive, you don't go to Fraser island. Every single road is sand.
Despite there being some pretty decent waves on Fraser, you don't really see any surfers. Why you might ask.
Our guide's name was Bruce, but we called him sharky because his shirt said "sharky" on it. My favorite part of Fraser island was the Beerabeen lake....absolutely gorgeous. Mon and I spent quite a bit of time swimming and just enjoying the white sand there.
The best/worst memory was when Sharky dropped Mon and I off to go to Lake Wobby. Mon had no shoes and both of us were in our bikinis. Sharky didn't tell us it was a 3 km hike...some of which was over a mini desert. So being creative teachers, Mon and I fashioned some shoes out of a travel pillow and headbands. It was hilarious. We were laughing and so warm at the same time.
Overall, it was a grrrrreat experience. Very cool to see.
