Essaouira...a surfer's paradise
Essaouira has been great. It is so much cooler....only about 30 degrees and has a wonderful cool breeze blowing off of the ocean.
Last night, we arrived in Essaouira to find that our hotel rooms had been given away. We were all quite disappointed until we discovered that we got to upgrade to a beautiful and much nicer hotel close by. The hotel is so cute. It is all open in the inside and is painted blue and white. There are sparrows all through the center and the rooms are cute with blue shutters that open to the courtyard.
We are very close to the ocean where countless people kite surf and sail. I skipped out on kite surfing and last night, a bunch of us went to a local women that our tour guide knows to get some Henna done.
Last night, after our henna, the entire group went out for some delicious french moroccan food. It was amazing. I had some fresh fish and chocolate soup for desert. Yum....the nicest meal of the trip by far.
Today was very interesting. All of the females in my group decided to try out the local hammam. We basically entered a large sauna where it was women only. The ladies that work at the hamman scrubbed us with black soap and some warm exfoliant that smelled delicious like cloves. It was very warming. They then wash your hair and dump big buckets of water on you. Afterwards you get massaged with argan oil. It was unlike anything Ive ever experienced....definately for the locals. I got the bigger lady who was a little rougher than the others...interesting. And noone wears their tops there....noone. Cultural experience....we were all laughing.
I spent the rest of the day wandering the local souqs. Tonight is our last evening together as a group so we are going out for dinner. Tomorrow we catch the train back to Casablanca where I will catch a flight back to Europe (Spain) and meet up with Carlos, my friend visiting from Peru.
