Me and an Irish friend decided to treat ourselves to a weekend away, so we headed east to Peschiera del Garda to what is supposed to be Italy's best theme-park - Gardaland.  The day was rainy, but we were convinced it would clear up.   It didn't.

We had to switch trains in Milan, so our total travel time was about 3 and a half hours. The plan was Saturday in Gardaland and Sunday in Verona.

The park was deserted due to the bad weather, so we at least had the benefit of no queues. The park is really spread out and we kept getting lost even though we had a map. Some of the rides were just for small kids, but there a few rollarcoasters and water rides for us 'big kids'.

The only one I found any way worthwhile was 'Blue Tornado' - one of those rollarcoasters where your feet just dangle as you speed through the air.  Another one we went on a few times was 'Space Vertigo' - where you get launched 40 metres upwards "into space". Food was expensive. We ate at a Texan ranch style restaurant. As the day went on and the sky cleared, the park started to fill up. We were glad to have gotten there early and avoided the queues that were starting to form. We went to see a parrot show. There was this parrot that could ride a bike! It was kinda weird (and un-natural) that he could even do that. We decided to head to Verona to find a hotel, so that we'd be there in the morning to make the most of the day.

It was about 10:30 by the time we pulled into Verona's train station. Finding a hotel wasn't as easy as we thought and it took almost 2 hours of walking around the city before we found somewhere affordable with a free room. It cost us 80,000 lira (€40) each and we got breakfast, so it was actually a bargain for a city centre hotel. We were both exhausted since we had been up very early that morning to catch our train and we slept almost instantly.
