A three week trip through the Middle East!

Shobak - Crusader Castle

On our way to the Dana Nature Reserve, our taxi driver asked if we wanted to stop off at Shobak.  He mentioned it was his home town so he would take us to the castle for free.  Who would pass up that offer?!  :)  The castle, up on a hill (good spot for a castle!), stood out over the surrounding town.  1000 years old, the castle still stands strong, ready to defend the area from invaders.  We paid 1 JD to get a full guided tour of the castle.  We were able to see the remnants of the barracks, the throne room (in case royalty showed up), the church, the secret passage leading to the base of the hill, etc.  We probably didn't spend more than an hour there, but just to see a piece of history was neat.
