The Israel/Jordan border

I really wish we had more time to spend in Eilat, as I have heard that it's a beautiful city, but unfortunately we only headed there to cross the border to enter Jordan.  We took a bus at midnight (of all times!) and did our best to enjoy the Israeli desert scenery in the middle of the night and sleep at the same time.  We arrived in Eilat at around 4:30 AM and then looked for the bus that would take us to the Eilat/Aqaba border.  It wasn't long before the locals informed us that the bus doesn't run anymore...so we had to negotiate a price with one of the local drivers to take us out there.

We arrived at the border around 6:00 AM to find that it didn't open until 6:30.  We had booked a scuba diving trip at 10:00 in Aqaba and I was anxious to get across the border.  The taxi driver could only drop of off at the gate, you must walk through the checkpoints to get to Jordan and once on the other side, you have to find a taxi to take you where you need to go.  As it turned out, walking across the border was pretty easy.  We just had to stop at various checkpoints, one to pay an "exit tax", one for a visa, etc.  We made it through pretty quickly and were at our hotel by 7:30.
