We started out from Grand Junction and headed out to the San Rafael Swell. We took ............... west and headed out.

Our first hike for the weekend was Little Wild Horse which was an easy 8 mile hike through the canyon with the walls coming fairly close together. Rob and I learned how to chimney. It was a lot of fun but there were a lot of people. There were places where one group would have to go up and other groups would have to go under them. You can wear sandals on this hike. It got really hot but the shade was a nice relief. We brought a lot of water and we used it all.

The next hikes we did were Ding and Dang. A nine mile hike with a technical aspect. We needed to use ropes to get down a couple of parts. Chimneying and problem solving were the two main components. It was my first rock climbing experience and it won't be my last. We once again used a lot of water and one would need to wear hiking shoes to handle this course. Ding and Dang were two different hikes that one could travel up ding and back down Dang. Dang was a lot more technical than Ding but even more fun. Dang got progressively harder ending with a long chimneying expedition over very stagnant muddy water
