First day in Cambridge
April 1, 2007
Driving through the English countryside is monotonous but incredibly
beautiful. Rolling hills with bright green produce, and we were lucky
enough to have four days of rainless basically cloud free days in the
rainy land that is England. So we could see the brilliant green of the
countryside as we drove down to Cambridge from Oxford.
My father was in Cambridge for an astrophysics conference so we got to walk around Cambridge all on our own for the most part. We walked from the Gardener's Hut (or Shed) where we were staying to the residential district right outside of Cambridge where I had previously lived for two years. We spent a while in the park next to the house with great playground equipment. We got remarks from the local children "Why ah thea old people on the swing-set?" and we overheard an argument between two five year olds "I just wont to make one thing cleah". After that we walked by my old house and walked down the alley on the side to the backyard.
After which we made way to central Cambridge, but got distracted by Castle Hill. This hill really has amazing grass. We lied in it for a good twenty minutes due to the lush green quality of said grass.
This first day we did not get to go into any colleges, but looked into which ever ones we could, because we did not want to pay money. We didn't really have any. So we spent our time in the parks of Cambridge instead. We went into a sort of "mall" where I went mini-bungee jumping on a trampoline.
As we came out of the establishment we encountered a drunk man who disagreed with my father liking Mr Bean because my father was "an american", which he is not. He's from Spain, and speaks English with a thicker accent than the governor of California.
After he tried to pick a fight with my dad and called him a "prick" we ran out into yet another park. And eventually made our way home in the setting sun.
