DAY 38

Monday 16th July

Now in the Canal du Midi, very pleasant motoring and the locks not really causing any problems now. People on pleasure cruisers now, that’s another story. Some are completely incompetent and don’t have any idea about tying a boat up. They also exceed the speed limit, some going so fast they could tow a water skier. The wash created is playing hell with the canal banks.

Tied up at Gardouch and met Ron again who had been so helpful in Pauillac. They had gone north from Bordeaux, not liked the weather out at at sea and had come back into the calm of the canal.

DAY 39

Tuesday 17th July

Julie and Ro offer to take Ron and Julia and their cat to the vet. The cat was injured last night and has a broken leg. When they return it was to say that the cat had been shot and had to be put down. Suspicion falls on the lock keeper who had talked about shooting wild cats. Ron and Julie leave in a hurry to get away from the place. We left at 1pm and motor to Castelnaudary, tying up at the town quay where we find free toilet, water and shower (only one but what do you expect for free?).
