DAY 19

Wednesday 27th June

Had a very leisurely sail from Port Joinville to St Martin on Ile de Re, enlivened by JC trying to catch fish with a paravane. After trying various designs, he gave up on version 15 without catching anything. Pity really, I was looking forward to a mackerel breakfast. Arrived at St Martin and had to raft up next to two men with a huge power boat who JC was convinced were drug smugglers.

The highlight of the evening was the look on JC’s face when the waiter brought the hamburger he had ordered; he was convinced it was still moving. At least that’s what he told me when he returned from chucking up in the WC.

NOTES FROM THE CREW

Thought 3 - French help reduce carbon emissions

I was impressed with the way the French take seriously global warming - they are determined individually to cut down on there use of power - despite the obvious discomfort to themselves they refuse to use any energy to cook their meat. Well done to them I say …. Let’s all follow in their footsteps - tie the cow out the back of the restaurant let the diners take a bite out of whichever bit they fancy.
