Sydeny at New Years is nothing less than amazing. I spent the day relaxing on Brians Head in North Sydney drinking. The bridge had been closed all day and so the only way to get to North Sydney was by boat. After the crazy bus driver tryed to test how scared we would get as he sped faster and faster around blind corners further up the hill we arrived at a field with a stunning view across Sydney harbour to the Opera house. As the sunset excitement filled the air and the hill slowley filled up with people from all walks of life. 11 o'clock comes around and Sydney it seems goes almost deathly quite in anticipation for the comming events. A firework shoots from the middle of the bridge and the New Years celebrations is underway. i walked down to the beach and stood in amazement amoungst hundreds of other people as the fireworks seemed to say something. Looking across the bay at these lucky boat owners i see that new years in Sydney really is a time for change to the Australians. All the boats are lined with lights and you really are touched by the sence of comunity and togetherness in such a vast land with such a history.

Hi there, i am going to Sydney for Christmas and New Years but am not sure what to do. For New Years it seems you have to camp out for 10-12 hours to see the fireworks. Also i don't have a hostel since they all tripled their prices. Do you have any suggestions on places to stay for 2 nights and best place to watch the fireworks, like Brians Head? Do you need to pay to watch from this Brians Head, how early to get there etc. Thanks for any info you can give.

Chris.
