Hey Everyone,

Hope life at home is going ok!  I can´t believe it´s only been a week since i´ve been away. Craziness!

So, on weds i left Antigua and took 3    (yes 3) buses by myself to get to Lago de Atitlan.  By the time i was getting near i was bored of buses so i decided to get of a bit early and have a look around a town that looked very Guatemalan and then walk the last bit, whilst having a nice view of the lake.  Good in theory however  i was stared at A LOT in the town,  and couldnt really find anything to do there... and then i found the only was down was by road, and the only road had no form of pavements, so although i did get some nice views, I was manily scared of the fast approaching buses and lorries! ANyway 2 hours later i got to the town of Panajchel.  THe lake was beautiful and i went for a dip!  but wasn´t to impressed with the town.  It was tacky and touristy 'i found myself later drinking in a pirates of the caribean  themed pub....

On Thu i hung out at the lake, i took boats around to check out the other 2 main towns and ended up staying in san pedro and hanging out with a nice aussie girl called amy.  It was san pedro day on fri which meant the town was in party mood on thus night.  THey´d brought in the most old, unsafe, rickety but fast big wheels ive ever seen and i actually couldnt watch as i thought a kid would come flying out at any min! I dont think they did though.

On fri i managed to get outta bed early and head up to a town called Quetzaltenango.  On the way i met two americans that are cool and by a freaky coincidence we´d all booked on the same hike... however they speak less spanish than me ie none, and had lost there travellers cheques so when we got here i was speaking to bank managers in spanish to get them reissued...  was a drama..

Then on sat and today i went on a hike up a dormant volcano to the highest point in central america.  it was tough going very steep uphill but somehow we all made it to the top.  We also planted 300 trees on the way, not sure that´s gonna do much agaisnt the 29 000 miles im gonna be flying though....  the hike was amazing and we got really beautiful views, there was also ice at the top, which felt really weird cause we were getting sunburnt planting the trees... we also got attacked by a bunch of cows, we were obviously camping in there sleeping area.... good times.... now i´m about to go out with the trekkers! Then i´ll be on the move again tomorrow.

Missing you all loads,

Love Jo xxxxx
