"Nine lives left so don’t court disaster
Nine lives left and time is our master
Though we’re walking slow our hearts beating faster
Make our way to Istanbul

Now the crescent moon and the stars that that reach beyond
Whisper to us secrets I can only find in Istanbul

Long time gone ‘nuff roads we a travel
Let me concentrate these puzzles unravel
Not feh dance with death but look to the future
For we reach the gates of Istanbul

Now the crescent moon and the stars that that reach beyond
Whisper to us secrets I can only find in Istanbul"

Cengiz Ozkan is one of my favourite turkish folk music singers....As I am interested in Turkish Folk Music, he has always been a source to listen and improve my musical skills... I love his very smooth voice...and touchful music... "Ah Istanbul" is the name of one his albums and also a song in the album...The song from the region of Kutahya in Turkey....and is about a lover who went to istanbul and never come back.....it is kind of sad and deep song...I wanted to translate it  in english, but it wouldnt give you the real meaning.

.. One more thing, Cengiz Ozkan sings this song more like a turkish classical music...

19.Erkan Ogur - Neden geldim Istanbul'a http://fizy.com/#s/1aitf6

Erkan Ogur is a well-know turkish musican around the world... He is the pioneer of the first fret-less guitar..A composer...he influenced on many musician with his compositions combining the sound of Turkish folk music...He is the master of Turkish instruments called "Kopuz" and "Baglama"

To me, this song has a very interesting story... "Why I did came to istanbul ?" (Neden geldim istanbul'a?) This song originally belong to person who had to immigrate to The USA...and the original song called "why I did come to America?"

Ahilleas Pulos who was an armenian who had to leave Turkey in 1918 because of the conflict between The Turks and Armenian.

Topkapi Palace
..so He left the country by  a ferry to The Usa and started to live there...However, He never been happy there...and was remembering the days back home ...so he composed this song and sung in 1928 in turkish with strong armenian accent...after years, when Erkan Ogur visited the Usa in 1989 and heard this song and converted it to "istanbul version" The common thing between Erkan Ogur and Ahilleas Pulos is that They are from same hometown, from Elazig which is a city in the east of Turkey...so where America is and where istanbul is...but the feelings are same....I love this country with all history...I wish we could protect that all multicultural life which came from the past...

Here , you can watch a video about the song...and listen it as well

and the original song from Ahilleas Pulos "Neden geldim Amerika'ya?" ( Why I did come to America?)
