Istiklal Street

Istanbul is  a city where the east meets the west....and it is also a city where the musics having new form with this fact....When you walking on Istiklal Street, you can see so many street performers, they give you good examples of daily sounds of Istanbul...This music is just melting in daily sound of istanbul...I think Istanbul has a big harmony of those musics, this harmony just take people away from the moment where they are...they go back to the past or  take you to the future..so when you live the moment, actually you live in the past and future...

And I love listening music...and I  am also playing a Turkish instrument which called Baglama, but not professionally:)...I was just surfing in TB forums and saw a post, which sent by Travbuddy Tejah1 , about the music of cities around the world...and this just gave me an idea about why not giving or telling the music of istanbul to those who are keen to visit istanbul or on the way of istanbul.

Sufi Dancers...

I think people who like listening local musics or the music about the city where they visiting, would like the idea. When they are strolling on the streets, while watching the people and seeing the sights, they can just hear the sound of the city in their ears ...so I am going to share the songs about Istanbul, and add a link to be able to listen the songs...and I will update whenever I find or remember a new song and give more info about the songs...to listen the songs ,just click the links..

..I love this song because of two dual faces of Istanbul....modern and traditional...and "Mey" sound gives a mystical touch...The band has two albums ,called "Divan" and "Kirik Kalpler Albumu".lets listen the song and feel relaxed...think that you are crossing the Bosphourus from Europe to Asia...or watching  istanbul from Galata Tower.....or you standing in the middle of Istanbul and seeing it on the Maiden Tower....or you are sitting on a bench at Sultanahmet, and seeing two beautiful sights of istanbul...Saint Sofia and Blue Mosque... what about you are drinking a tea at Pierre Loti Cafe on Eyup hill...or strolling narrow streets of Grand Bazaar or smelling the spices in Egyptian Bazaar...and you find yourself in taksim and walking on Istiklal Street with a big crowd.... then you are in ortakoy and eating kumpir and watching beautiful the bosphourus.

"See there, past that far-off hill
A tower held in the sky
Hear there, in that dark blue night
The music calling us home

Stars may always guide our way,
From desert sands where winds blow harsh and long
But here's where our hearts will pray
And all our loves will slumber with a song

So now, if our hearts be true
And like a pool of truth reflect the sun
We will find right honour there
And keep us safe and lead us from all harm

Then come love, let us dance all night
Until birds they waken at the dawn
Then come love, let us sing all night
And all our loves will slumber with a song"
