Arrived at Taipei Main Station and decided to take a taxi to check into my room at The Emperor Hotel since it was my first time in Taiwan.

After dropping everything off and freshening up a little, decided to take a taxi to Taipei 101 for some lunch. Due to the size of the building, it appeared to be closer.  At a height of 508 meters (1667 feet), I was awed by its size and pagoda appearance.  Afterwards, I was informed that its appearance is that of a bamboo stalk and the number "8" plays a significant role in the building.  It is currently the tallest building (antennae of Sears Towers is not considered part of the building) in the world.

The first five floors are for retail which include various shops, restaurants, and banking facilities.

I had lunch at Diamond Tony's Italian Restaurant on the fourth floor.  From the fifth floor, you can take the world's fastest pressurized elevator to the 89th floor in only 37 seconds at a cost of 350 NTD.  That is 1010 meters per minute and you will more than likely feel your ear drums pop.  At an additional 100 NTD, you can walk up to the outdoor observatory on the 91st floor.

Afterwards, decided to walk down to the City Council Building in order to get the best picture of Taipei 101.  Next, headed to the Taipei Metro Rapid Tranist (MRT)  to head to the Shilin Night Market.

Shilin Night Market is the largest night market in Taipei.  You can reach it on the Red Line by getting off at the Shilin or Jiantan Station.  It is quite a sight to see.
