Pisgah National Forest

Pisgah Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I grew up in Murphy, NC and while not many people know about it, the visitors from Florida love it. It is a small quaint town that offers some great R&R. It was my home for 17 years and I thought I would share the love...
Pisgah National Forest sits snuggly in the Appalachian Mountains and covers hundreds of thousands of acres. This forest displays some of the greatest scenery in the western region. Just west of the Biltmore in Asheville, Pisgah is not only a convenient trip but also offers some great outdoor adventures and activities including hiking and camping. Just a random fact, Pisgah was the first official national forest in the United States.

Located within Pisgah National Forest is, of course, part of the Appalachian Trail. It is hard to go anywhere and not see part of this Trail. However, you can also get a glimpse of Pisgah Mountain, the highest peak in the forest, the French Broad River which is great for whitewater rafting, Mt. Mitchell which is the highest peak in the eastern part of the country and Grandfather Mountain. It is quite a large area but is divided into four segments making exploring this area much easier. However, which ever segment you decide to take, you are guaranteed beautiful scenery!
