Stop over for the night

We arrived in Ocosingo as the rain was stopping.  There wasn't enough room at the first hotel we tried, so the group split up and stayed at two hotels (next door to each other.)

After moving our bags into our rooms, we went out for dinner at a restaurant on the plaza.  While we were ordering, the power went out to the whole block.  It was fun, with the doors and windows open to the street,  the only illumination from streetlights across the plaza.  Eventually our waiters brought our candles in Coke bottles to light our table.

I ordered the "Sabana Invierno," which apparently is Spanish for way too much food!  There were 2 chicken enchiladas, a flattened piece of pork, rice, refried beans, guacamole and torilla chips.  Everyone else ordered a lot of food as well (how were we to know?  Everything is so cheap that you can't judge portion size by price.)  No one wanted to help anyone else with their leftovers.

Well stuffed from dinner, we took a short walk around the plaza, then back to the hotel.  The desk clerk was waiting there with a candle for us to light our way back to our room.  In the bathroom, there was a large gecko crawling over the wall of the shower.  He scurried away when I brought the candle in for a better look.

On to San Cristobal tomorrow.
