San Juan del Sur Travel Blog

Last but not least, we spent 3 days in San Juan Del Sur.  I had by far the most fun here.  The people, both local and tourists, were great, leading to wonderful conversations and new friends.  Although vacations are taken with the intent to enjoy leisure, they are rarely just that.  You typically spend more time traveling place to place than simply sitting back and relaxing.  San Juan allowed us to finally do this.

Our days: wake up, go body surfing, go back to the hotel to take a nap, eat lunch, going body surfing, then going out for the night.

If you get the chance, find a little old man named Francisco. He has a cane and hangs out by the beach, claiming to speak Spanish, English, Italian, and French.
Relaxing.
I don't doubt his English ability, as he did speak it quite well but we heard nothing of the latter two.  Anyway, he has a great little song about San Juan that will leave you with a laugh and a catchy tune.

A much greater surfer population than the past time we visited- there are many great places to surf within driving/boating distance of San Juan.  They have waves for surfers of every experience level. Nicaragua has gone relatively undiscovered as a surfing hotspot, but it is definitely gaining popularity. Go before it gets too popular.  We traveled to Remanso beach, a 20 minute drive from San Juan, to check out the waves.  Only about 10 people on that beach. The waves were good sized.

San Juan is a must-see for anyone traveling to Nicaragua!

San Juan del Sur Hotels & Accommodations review
Although this is by far not the most luxurious of the San Juan hotels, it's a good place if you're on a budget. My family and I stayed in a room that… read entire review
