Glen Coe

Day two took us north, into a majestic, green, hilly area.  We knew we were finally in the Highlands.  It was incredible, seeing those hills seemingly rise out of nowhere as we drove along the road.  I know everyone says Ireland is beautiful, but don't forget about the Scottish Highlands!  We entered the area of "undiscovered" Scotland known as Glen Coe.  There's actually a ton to see in this area alone; mountains, valleys, waterfalls, and you know there's plenty of history.  We went to see one of the waterfalls.

We parked the bus (I say we like I did some of the work) and had the opportunity to walk through (not through, but in between) some of the hills.  It was a bit rainy and overcast, but those hills were beautiful.

As we neared the trail to the waterfall, we were told that it was a two hour hike!  I was all about that, I love hiking...or at least I was until I saw this sign:  "DANGER!  This path becomes increasingly dangerous towards the gorge.  Fatal accidents have occurred.  Proceed with great care.  Good footwear essential."

Well that's just swell...I had tennis shoes, is that "good footwear"?  No matter, I wasn't going to let a silly sign stop my hike!  Of course, it started to rain at this point, adding to the difficulty!  The hike was lots of fun, taking us over dirt, up rocks, over streams, and finally into the gorge with the waterfall.  We didn't lose a soul to the trail, so we were in good spirits.  This waterfall was filmed in one of the Harry Potter movies, but was breathtaking to see regardless.  I hope the pictures I took do it justice.  On a side note, I realize the poncho makes me look dorky, but at least I didn't get soaked  :)

Oh, and if you're wondering why there are blue skies in some pictures and rain in another, it's no illusion...the weather just changes that quickly in Scotland!
