Edinburgh - Day 2

Day 2 in Edinburgh was a little bit more casual than the hectic events of day 1. I slept in a bit before heading out to check out the sites. It didn't look like the day wanted to cooperate with my plans, as it was rather dreary in the morning, overcast and rainy. I wasn't going to let that stop me though, and I headed out. My first stop was the queen's residence. This mansion is where the queen stays when she's in Scotland. (I wonder why she doesn't stay in the cold, stony castle?) The queen's residence is open like 364 days of the year, it just so happened that the queen was actually there the same time I was, and that meant a peon like myself was not allowed anywhere near the castle.
So, I took a walk to the Scottish parliament building, which was completely out of place in the otherwise old city. It was a very new building with a lot of very new technology. They are nice enough to let you walk around inside for free, though. Afterwards, I hiked up a few hills to get some better views of the city. I missed out on some shots after my camera was killed yesterday, so I wanted to try again. My first stop was a hill called Arthur's Seat, which anyone will tell you has great views. I then went up another hill with some old towers and monuments, although I can't remember for the life of me why they were there.
After that, I took a stroll down to the city centre and checked out the shopping district. It's not like I had money to buy anything, but I took a walk anyway. I actually did end up buying an alarm clock that I still use today for like 2 bucks, because the one I took on my trip did not work. I love that little thing! I then went back to the hostel to do laundry and I went to the store with some folks from the hostel and we made dinner. Afterwards I, admittedly so, went to see Star Wars Episode 3...when else was I going to be able to see it?
