The Burren
We left the city of Galway with the sun shining behind us. As we drove along the western edge of Ireland, the terrain started to get more rocky and less green...this was when we knew we were close to our destination. We were headed to the Burren, called so because of the rocky landscape and lack of vegetation. There wasn't a tree in sight, and we waved goodbye to anything green as we hiked into the Burren. The whole place just had an eerie aura about it, and as we entered it seemed that even the sun hid behind the clouds. All we could see were rocks, rocks, and more rocks. Our guide did point out to us a circular, man-made wall that enclosed a small patch of grass. It seems that one can only find life inside these "fairy circles". The one we found was one of several all over the area. The site left is in amazement that there was such a place in the beautiful land known as Ireland!
