Back to the Vatican

Of the group from last night, a couple of us decided to get up early and head over to the Vatican, in hopes of seeing the Pope. Some had told us he was out of town, but we had heard to the contrary...oh well, it was worth a look. We jumped on the subway at the train station and then walked from the stop into the Vatican. Upon making the last turn and actually entering the Vatican, we were surprised by the number of people. At that point, we were confident we would see the Pope today. After asking around a bit, we were told he would be speaking from his apartment, and someone pointed out to us which window to look at. Sure enough, after just a bit of time two men draped down some sort of Papal banner. After waiting for a few more minutes, the Pope came out and waved to the crowd!
He took the time to speak in well over 10 different languages to all the people there, each group cheering when they heard their language. Since I love studying languages so much (I wish I really had time to do it), I was really impressed by that. When he got to English, he said things that had happened very recently, so I knew that he did not simply memorize and say the same things over and over. There had been bombings in London just a few days before, and he even made mention of those. I just thought that was really cool.
