Leaving Saigon
Well, our three nights in the city have come to an end, and in just under an hour, we're going to be hopping on a bus to take us from Saigon to My Tho, the first major city in the Mekong Delta, from where we will take local transportation to remote Ben Tre province.
This has been an extremely fun three days, and I can safely say that Saigon is one of my favorite east asian cities. There is a blend of old and new here that the major cities of Japan and Korea could only dream of - modern, air-conditioned stores and hot, cramped and stinky traditional markets. Farmers in conical hats selling produce and locals from every niche of society roaring around in huge herds of motorbikes. Colorful, french-inspired street fronts and traditional thatched roofs.
It's hard to capture places like this in pictures, and so much of it is missed in all the photos we've seen. But, whatever, I think that's for the best. It means people will have to come here themselves. I've intentionally been avoiding some city shots for that exact reason.
Anyway.
Off to the Delta.
