After leaving Maggi island, our journey took us further south, where we arrived at Airlie beach, also known as the gateway to the Whitsunday islands. We did our research and booked onto a 2 day/2 night sailing trip on 'Condor', a world famous maxi-style racing yahct which has won countless cup races all over the world. We set off next day into fine weather, spending the late afternoon snorkelling over an amazing colourfull reef, then drinking the night away with our fellow sailor under a starry sky on deck. Sleeping arrangements were somewhat cramped below deck, but bearable as it was only for 2 night. After an early 7 am start and some more snorkelling, we sailed over to the famous Whitsunday island. After hiking up to the view point for what seemed hours, we were rewarded with an incredible view down onto Whitehaven beach, reportedly one of the finest beaches in the world! (the sane is so fine it was used to make the lens on the hubble telescope!) The rest of the day was spent lazing on the beach and cooling off in the crystal clear waters before heading back to the boat for dinner and an early night. Next day was another early start to glorious fine weather but unfortunately no wind! we instead spent the morning leisurely cruising back to Airlie beach.
