Bangkok madness

We finally reached Don Muang airport, Bangkok after 16 hours of continuous travel. After catching quite a few hours sleep on an uneventful flight we arrived feeling awake and ready for action. A shuttle bus (minibus) dropped us onto the Khao San Rd, straight into the heart of crazyville and an infamous backpackers haven. It was immeadiately apparent we were in bangkok- ladyboys...street food hawkers...pirated CD stalls...counterfeit clothing merchants, all plying for our trade. After deciding not to pre-book our first night accomodation (big mistake!) we found that most of the hotels (generic name for anywhere with a bed in this case) were full. We managed to get a bed for the night in the Siam Oriental (interesting place) though soon booked into the more comfortable D&D Inn where we are now. -A haven for those seeking a little more than a damp room full of cockroaches. We've recently done a whole lot of not much at all, though yesterday was spent walking round the rather grand Lumpini park- Who said there were Komodo dragons there? - we spent hours looking for the scaly beasts....all we could find were the rubber variety being sold by the vendors walking about. Regardless, the place is still worth a visit - A much needed peacefull retreat in the middle of a crazytown.

Next stop.....Koh Phangan.
