Australian Grand Prix 2006
March 28, 2006
Hi everyone, sorry its been a while but has been very difficult updating
my blog whilst we are on the move in our Camper Van. We left Sydney 2
weeks Today (Wednesday) and headed for Melboune. The Grand Prix wasn't
till the Sunday so we took a little detour and visited Canberra. Other
Backpackers had told us there wasn't much going on there but we wanted
to see for ourselves and to say we have been there. I wish we hadn't
bothered to be honest, Canberra was very poor in the terms of a Capital
City. The only thing we did here was take a Photo of Parliment Square
and stopped to get petrol, lol.
After this we headed on for Melbourne and stopped at the nearest campsite.
The next day we headed straight for Melbourne, it only took us a day and a half to get there which is pretty good going seeing as we were taking our time.
We arrived there in the evening and for the next three days
the three of us stayed in the van, a very tight squeeze i must say. We
found a nice spot in a Pub's Car Park (The Elephant And Wheelbarrow),
this was where the Neighbours Night took place previously in my Blog.
The only facilities we had was nearby hostel where we sneaked in and
had a shower, lol.
Sunday, the day of the Grand Prix, we were all very excited of course. Got there roughly about 11am, three hours before the initial start and had a good walk around. We saw plenty of modified Cars, Bikes and lots of Giveaways. Once 1pm came, we decided to get a good spot for the race and found a Bar/Restaurant on one of the chicanes, an excellent place to be. From then on we drank all day.
The Grand Prix was awesome, it contained speed and sound i have never experienced ever, the cars had so much grip, couldn't quite believe it. All i can say is if you get the opportunity to go to one, then do it. After the Grand Prix was over we decided to go on a ride called 'Sling Shot', i normally wouldn't go on these things but the beer helped my confidence and i thought why not. Was a strange feeling but no where near as bad as i thought it would be, brilliant!
The next post will be about our trip up the Coast.
Keep you all Posted.
