keep the aircon pumping

It is so hot that we have our aircon on constantly when we are home - constantly, even when we sleep. We go outside and everything is lit up like a christmas tree, and everywhere is air-conditioned. There is some serious energy consumption going on in Japan. Despite the population being 125 million and the enormous amount of electricity used, they are behind Australia and the US in carbon emissions per capita. Apparently they are no. 2 in the world after Germany for solar energy technology, but I think most of their energy is nuclear.
Anyway, that is just something we have noticed.....I'm not going into the nuclear energy debate here!
We have had a lazy weekend after a busy Friday spent catching up with new and old friends. We met Rena's parents in Ochanomizu for a cuppa.
After that we had a lovely dinner in Ginza with an old friend of mine and his wife. He has been in Tokyo for 4 and half years teaching English so was able to give Andy some tips on who is a good employer and who isn't! He also gave us advice on where to look for import supermarkets etc.
So this weekend we have been taking it easy - went to the gym, the local library and the local festival where we ate yummy yakisoba and soft serve, or 'soft cream' as they call it here.
Here are some pics of the local mall. The malls are usually located at the stations - this one is at Narimasu station which is the one we usually catch the train from. It's about 5 mins on the bike. It's about 9pm in the pics and very well-lit!!!
