My first time vacations in Colombia was just fantastic, so i wait for my return there. A lazy summer morning at my home, i watched the airtickets prices in net, and the small miracle done! A super price for Medellin for only 512euro was front of my astonished eyes! The route was Madrid to Medellin via Miami. I live in Athens, so i "stuck" and a ticket for Madrid via Rome, for 175euro and i was almost ready. Simply must wait five months and half, because i travelled February and the ticket bought early September(!). Μy joy was indescribable rush back to Colombia!

Finally 24 February started my little odyssey from Athens. I arrived late night at Madrid, i stayed 10 hours in the airport and the next morning i did check in again with American airlines.

I arrived little tired in Medellin but i was excited for my return there! It was late night already in Medellin, my driver wait me and led me till my apartment. The distance between airport and the city of Medellin is about 40minutes. My apartment was located on El Poblado area, the most famous area whole Medellin. There greeted me a guy from the real estate office, Santiago. I asked him about Medellin and gave to me some usefull info, and the keys of the apartment. My apartment was small but super (there is review on this in my profile). I took a shower, i watched football in TV and almost immediatelly slept after 4 flights and 2 long transits in Madrid and Miami.

Next morning i moved by metro to the city centre of Medellin, to admire the famous statues of Fernando Botero on Botero square.

Plaza Botero
The truth is that the centre of the city is ugly and scary, and has no relation to many parts of the city that are quite beautiful. Νext stop for me is the cemetery which is buried the famous Pablo Escobar and his family. I catched a taxi some blogs far away from plaza Botero and after 25-30  minutes driving standing at the entrance of the cemetery. In future i'll write a review on this, so decades details there:)

Few days before my departure, i read in net, that the famous "el classico" football match between Atletico Nacional Medellin and the Indepentiente Medellin, would occur the week i was in town. Last year this match had a dead guy from shot gun in riots between the fans before the game(!). I had watched live decades football games with violence in Greece, so i was  calm, and my second day in Medellin i found a ticket for El Classico! Match day went calmly and the reasons were the hundreds cops around the stadium and the abstention of the fans, because of last year's events.

...

Μetro of Medellin is clean, big, and very comfortable. Thousands "paisas" move daily with metro system. Metro in Medellin isn't undergound as the most cities all over the world, but overground. A really clever idea, is that have create at 2 different places, metrocables for a better panoramic look of Medellin and the ranchitos or colombian favelas! The view from above was simply amazing!

El Poblalo area, namely my apartment located , is number 1 area in Medellin. Moderns restaurants and shops, welldresse people everywhere, safety whole 24hours, and two super malls for entertainment and shopping: Santa Fe mall and Oviedo mall. Especially Santa Fe mall, distinguish between the  best three malls that i have seen in my travels! Parque Lleras is the trademark of El Poblado area! A park with decades restaurants around and lively night life.

All areas of Medellin city are: El poblado, Downtown(El Centro), Prado, Robledo, Belen, Laureles, Bello, Caldas, Itaqui, the beautifull Sabaneta very close to El Poblado, and of course Envigado area, the neighborhood has been associated with the famous cartel baron, Pablo Escobar.

In a week there, i travelled 2 times outside of Medellin for daily trips: Santa Fe de Antioquia village and the fantastic Guatape lake and the colourfull Guatape village with El Penol rock. Blog continues with more details and photos from these places..:)

Daily watched that the degree of mutual assistance between locals is high, as a service to the few tourists who move to the city...Generally i "feed" great sympathy to south America people, and especially to Colombians and Argentinos. After my second time in Colombia, i loved it even more the locals. I hope in a third visit there!
