We went out of Zhengchou to see the Yellow River. We went on the airboats (highly recommended, even though it cost 65 RMB per person) to go to some sandbars in the middle of the river. We saw the Hung ditch, a famous location in Chinese history (the division between two sides fighting for the Han dynasty) from the sandbar. On the sandbars were local farmers, who had horses there for hire, around 20RMB buys a ride on the horse for a few minutes and photo ops. We were told that the Yellow River still had many fish, especially famous was the carp (local fisherman could fetch up to 500RMB per such fish, so if you get one in a restaurant, it is more likely to be farm raised instead of wild), even though the water is very silty (one cup of water has 1/2 cup of sand, is the local saying). Then we hiked up a hill nearby to see the river from higher up. The view was good, but you couldn't see too far, smog or fog?
