Within its three surrounding walls and dominating the vineyard of Mâconnais valley,the Berzé castle comprises thirteen towers constructed between the 13th and 15th centuries around a Carolingian chapel dating back to the 9th century.
It is the oldest and largest fortress in southern Burgundy.In 1229 under St Louis reign,the Sire Hugues de Berzé transformed a former castrum into a fortified castle to protect the Cluny abbey that was extended and modernised in the fifteenth century
As the interior of the castle is private,the visitors can only see the defensive features still present(remparts,fort,guardroom,a 36 meters deep well.

Opening hours:-every afternoon from June to September(except Thursday)3:00-6:00 pm
-every Saturday and Sunday of April and May 2:00-4:00 pm
