After doing most of the essentials and seeing nearly all of the landmarks in Zagreb, I decided to see Maksimir Park in my second day of journey. It's located a few km's away from the town center, next to the Dinamo Stadium (home of the football team Dinamo Zagreb). The park can be reached by Tram, however, if you like walking it takes approximately 20-25 mins walking from Ban Jelacic square. Or, just a tip, you can take the tram for the first 2 stops (it's free of charge) then before walking.
Before arriving Maksimir, my host took me the neighborhood called Novi Zagreb (New Zagreb) to eat some Cevapi or Cevapcici. I know, you can have cevapi everywhere in Former Yugoslavia, however this food is based on Sarajevo, Bosnia and the restaurant we went was doing it as"Bosnian" style.
So, we arrived Maksimir, and start hiking. The place is very calm and beautiful. You can walk, jog, run, hangout with your dog, basically so many chill-out activities here. There are 1 or 2 small ponds inside the park where you can sit and watch the nature. But the mosquitos make you annoyed a lil bit. You will see a lot of turtles inside the pond. My friend told me that people who pet those turtles in their home fed up with them or decided that they will not pet them anymore, come to this pond and release their turtles to the nature, and they start breeding here, so turtles are everywhere =) If I don't misunderstand, this kind of "turtle release" is prohibited by the local authority because as I mentioned, there is a "turtle offspring" now. =)
Moreover, there is also a cafe/restaurant to have some food or drinks in the park. If you want, you can visit the zoo inside the park, as well.
Basically, If you're staying more than 1 day in Zagreb, you should see Maksimir Park.
