Day 5: My Last Day in Barbados

Rainstorm at dawn. It's fascinating to watch it rain in only one part of the sky.
I had wanted to get up at sunrise to take photos, and I finally did so this morning. The day dawned grey so I didn’t see the sun crest the horizon, but the rain made for some much more interesting shots.
Matt and Dipti were returning to the States this afternoon, so I took a goodbye walk with Matt through Bathsheba. When we were about to return the heavens opened up in a Caribbean shower. The rain was blowing horizontally. If you’ve never experienced a Caribbean shower, they’re sudden, heavy and violent, and then just as suddenly they vanish as if they had never been.

Foolishly I had brought my camera with me; it was inside my shoulder bag and I didn't think to take it out before we left. Five minutes into the storm I remembered with dismay that I had it. I pictured the poor camera drowning like the girl in 'The Ring' as water filled my bag. When I finally got to my room I opened my bag expecting the worst, but the camera was completely dry. I don’t know how it survived that soaking, driving rain, but I was so happy it did - which reminds me, I need to pack a plastic bag in my shoulder bag for the next time it downpours.

I paid a final visit to the Atlantis, and due to the weather I sat inside the restaurant. I’m glad I did, for it afforded me some good photos of the interior. One last dinner at the Sea U, and I headed to bed early in order to catch my 4:30 am ride to the airport.
