The Final Hours

Usually by the time you get to this stage you just want to be home, and not kicking about somewhere waiting. Had to be up sharp and sort ourselves out and were out the door just before 10am. The company the did the letting of the apartment has an office on the Strada Nova, and we went there, as we were told we could and left our bags with them. Went down to the vapereto stop at the Ca D'Oro and got a boat down the Grand Canal, intending to go and have a last wander around the Piazza San Marco, but as we approached the stop before it we decided to get off and go in and have a look at the Basilica Di Santa Maria Della Salute.
This was much more like it, much more relaxed, allowed to take pictures and no hoards of people. I actually thought it was just as nice as inside the Basilica San Marco, and it was a lot lighter having windows up in the roof.
Turning at the point and walking behind the Santa Maria Della Salute, we came across one of these unusual little things you hope to find when you are away, the Museo RSC Bucintoro. Had know idea what it was, but it was free to enter so we piled in :D
Reale Società Canottieri Bucintoro is the rowing and paddling club. The Bucintoro was the Doge's luxury barge and there are lots of photos of it being sailed in the annual festival in Venice. There are pictures of other types of gondolas being raced, with one type taking 16 gondoliers to crew it :O.
Walked on a bit and decided to get the boat over to Giudecca and have a look about there. Nice walk along the front and good views over to St Marks. Came across the prison there as well, though it didn't look as much fun as the one in Mostar :D . Took the boat back, via San Giorgio to St Marks and then got another boat up the Grand Canal to collect our bags.
Had got a 3 day ticket for the vapereto, so we took the number 42 out to Murano and waited on the water bus over the lagoon to the airport. First time ever I've got a boat to the airport :D. Were there for the check in opening and got rid of our bags quite quickly. I went off to have a look about the airport, while wife and kids went through security to get something to drink. Quite a smart airport inside, and good range of sopping through security and I had time for one more beer in Venice before the flight was called and we were off on our way to Gatwick.
