Airbus A380 for the first time in Holland

The biggest passenger aircraft in the world, the Airbus A380, visited Schiphol today and of course I had to go see that! The plane landed in the morning, at 09.50 and left in the afternoon again. It was a test flight to see if Schiphol could handle the operations of such a big aircraft.

A few hundred spotters gathered next to the Polderbaan (the name of the runway) to see the big bird land. There was a lot of police surveillance and local news stations were also there to capture it. Just before the airplane landed, all other air traffic was gone. They had kept the air space open for the A380 to land safely. The A380 first flew over Amsterdam and Schiphol quite low, and headed towards the sea to make a big turn towards the runway. It landed within minutes and I was surprised with the amount of sound: there was none!

To celebrate this event, Schiphol set up a few promotional stands. You could have your picture taken which would later be photoshopped in front of the A380. You could also receive a free keycord after a purchase in one of the Schiphol Plaza shops.
