Seal Cove

Up early as we have a lot ot pack in to one day....we drove down to the south of the island, along miles and miles sorry! kilometres and kilometres) of straight roads, punctuated only by the rotting corpses of roos, wombats, koalas, and any other mammal dim enough to try crossing the road at dusk or dawn...

We arrived at Seal Cove and selected the self guided boardwalk tour a $12.50 (th ealterntiv was the $25 guided beach walk)....we walked down a long walkway to the beach, seeing various Australian sealions (and the skeleton of a beached humpback whale) as we went. It was a bitterly cold day and i was glad that, like the seals, I had prepared a thick layer of blubber to keep warm...nb to self, gym when I get back.....

Having been sealioned out, we got back in the car and drove to Flinders Chase nature reserve.

For A a very reasonable $9 each, we had access to all the features here...but first, coffee and the inevitable cake...a warmed up blueberry muffin....

The first attraction was Admirals Arch. This is an archway cut into the headland which will eventually (though not in my lifetime!) split off. The  coast and seas round here were a fantastic sight, really powerful waves crashing onto the rocks. The area was also occupied by a colony of New Zealand fur seals.

Next we headed off to the Remarkable Rocks. This is a granite outcrop formed from molten rock pushing through layers of sedimentary rock, weathering and leaving the formation we see today (see pictures). It really was an impressive sight....in fact, you could say, quite REMARKABLE......

We made the long journey back to Kingscote for dinner, and as bellas wasnt yet open we had a quick drink at the local pub -combined with bookies (!)....the food at bellas was again delicious, pizza for me and greek salad for the girls...
