Travel to Costa Rica

Today is the big day, not only travel to Costa Rica, but also the first time since our marriage that I have talked my wife into leaving the country. Not that we have been without travel. We have hit up Alaska, Hawaii and some excellent parts of the United States but it is time to raise the bar and put us someplace that will be a little more challenging and exotic. I get to practice up on my Spanish and see how rusty it really is (I haven't really used it for six years) and its time to find out that all those times when Brenda (my wife) told me she doesn't speak Spanish, she was telling the truth.
Brenda did do a great job helping identify our hotels we would stay at and reading up in the travel books, but as far as activities are concerned we will be winging it.
Our travel day was day one of practicing our patience as out flight to Miami from Chicago was delayed 1.5 hours. No biggie except we only had 1 hour and 45 min. in Miami, so now there is a chance we could miss the plane, but of course Miami is also delayed so we make it to San Jose no problem. We arrive at 11:00pm, one hour behind WI time because Costa Rica does not practice daylight savings time. In the winter our time zones are the same.
We picked up a ride in the orange aeropuerto taxis that were referred to us in the tour book as being the only legitimate taxis at the airport. They were pricey at $28 to get us to our hotel, the Clarion de Amon, but it was much better than getting our own car and driving through San Jose. We will learn in the next two weeks that driving in Costa Rica is insane and it is much better left to the locals and we will be walking or relying on public transportation which works just fine.
