Finally we were on our way and although 6 hours late we did arrive in Budapest. Unfortunately all public transport stopped around midnight so we were forced into getting a taxi into the town. Once there the hotel had stayed open for us and were very helpful, they advised us that there was a bar not too far away open until 4am and this had drinks and snacks.
We were very tired but as we were only there for one night didnt want to allow this to spoil it, so we poped out for a quick one.
In the morning we got up very early as we knew we had a lot to see. Breakfast was well appreciated and so was the fact the hotel allowed us late check out at no extra cost.
We decided that we didnt want to get the metro arround the town as we could take in more of the sites on foot and as the city didnt seem too big we thought we would have time. We managed to visit the major sites and in the heat (33 degrees) we thought this was an achievement. Once we had seen everything - the castle, parliment building, market, bazaar, danube etc we headed back to the hotel where we had a very quick shower and a power nap.
Before we knew it we were back in a taxi making our way to the airport for the second time in 24 hours. We later found out that yet again there was a delay, however not anywhere near as bad as the 6 hours we waited previously. Although the delay did cost us almost half a day, we made sure it didnt spoil our time in Budapest, i would recommend going and am so glad i did.
