Mille Lacs Kathio State Park

This park is not far from Father Hennepin, but is much larger. My first stop was the fire tower near the horse camp. There was a geocache near the base of the fire tower and I figured I might as well climb to the top. It was high! Lots of steps and not for those afraid of heights. You can only get 6 people up top at a time, and it was me and a lovey dovey couple. I figured they were mad at me for interrupting their make-out session. The view from the top was trees, trees, and more trees. And lakes. Very nice. A great breeze helped keep it cool.
I was a little surprised to see all the horses near the tower, but I guess it is a popular place for horse back riding. Next I drove to the boat launch area on the Rum River (following the geocache, of course). The hiking trail I followed went through some tall pines along the river. It was cool. I wished I had more time to do the whole trail. I skipped the cultural sites because the park was a little busy for me and I had places to go! Off to the next stop!
